10 Bleedings That Occur During Pregnancy

Implantation Bleeding

Bleeding during pregnancy can occur when a fertilized egg implants itself in the uterine wall. These are very small amounts of bleeding. They last approximately 2 to 3 days. However, it is not unusual for this bleeding to continue for a longer period than normal. The bleeding that occurs during implantation bleeding is similar to a menstrual cycle. It can flow in a light pink or brown color. This bleeding is generally not noticed at first.

Bleeding caused by the possibility of miscarriage

The possibility of miscarriage is considered more for women who experience continuous bleeding during pregnancy. Almost half of the women who experience continuous bleeding during pregnancy end their pregnancy with miscarriage. Miscarriage bleeding is not like progression bleeding. Miscarriage bleeding is much heavier and causes cramps. In addition, pain in the abdomen, high fever, chills and blood clots are also noted. If you experience heavy bleeding during early pregnancy, you should see your doctor immediately.

Ectopic pregnancy

Bleeding caused by ectopic pregnancy is the most serious and even life-threatening bleeding. An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilized egg settles outside the uterus and continues to grow there. The unhealthy location of the fertilized egg is usually where the fallopian tube is located. In such cases, severe cramps, abdominal pain, and dizziness may accompany the bleeding.

Progression bleeding

This type of bleeding is the most common and not considered very dangerous early pregnancy bleeding. This type of bleeding occurs due to a menstrual cycle that occurs later. When you are pregnant, the cyclical hormones are masked by the pregnancy hormones.

However, there is a possibility that menstrual hormones may trigger menstruation on their own later in pregnancy. Painless bleeding in early pregnancy may be related to the menstrual cycle.

Molar pregnancies

Molar pregnancies are considered to be one of the rare causes of bleeding in early pregnancy. In this type of bleeding, the cells transform into a tissue resembling a bunch of grapes instead of a healthy placenta.

Cervical irritation

During pregnancy, blood flow in the cervix accelerates and begins to increase day by day. When irritation occurs in this area, it can easily cause bleeding. Having sexual intercourse during pregnancy is usually enough to cause this irritation. If you experience bleeding after having sexual intercourse, be sure to mention this to your doctor when you go. Sexually transmitted diseases also play a major role in the occurrence of this type of bleeding.

Problems with the placenta may cause bleeding

Placenta previa, which is bleeding that occurs in the form of spotting in the case of the baby coming first, can be serious. In such cases, the cause of bleeding can be understood very easily with an ultrasound examination. The amount of bleeding should be evaluated. When the patient's blood values are examined, the necessary emergency measures should be taken and blood should be prepared.

The baby's health should also be monitored and the mother-to-be should be hospitalized and monitored. The decision to deliver should first be made based on the amount of bleeding, the stage of pregnancy, and the baby's health. Another cause of bleeding is the placenta separating earlier than normal, meaning the placenta separates before the baby is born.

If the placental separation occurs from the lower end, it manifests itself with vaginal bleeding. If the separation occurs from the middle of the placenta, the bleeding is not noticed and may remain hidden. Painful contractions and hardness are felt in the uterine region. It is a serious condition that requires immediate intervention for the baby and the mother.

Bleeding has been a major problem in recent weeks.

Bleeding that occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy is referred to as late pregnancy bleeding. Late bleeding may occur due to more serious causes.

The period after the 26th week of pregnancy is the period when the baby has passed the limit of life. A significant investigation is needed for both the mother and the baby's life. In such cases, the expectant mother should generally be hospitalized and kept under observation and control.

Preterm Labor

If labor begins after the 20th week but before the 37th week, mucous and bloody discharge accompanied by contractions may be a sign of premature labor.

Bleeding not related to pregnancy

Some of the bleeding that occurs during pregnancy may not be seen as pregnancy-related. These bleedings may also be due to bleeding from the wound in the cervix, polyps in the cervix, and various masses in the vagina. Bleeding from the anus related to hemorrhoids and bleeding related to the urinary tract can also be confused with vaginal bleeding in some cases.
