15 Negatives of Cesarean Birth

When the health of the woman and the baby is suitable, in other words when the conditions are suitable, the most correct and natural method for giving birth is normal birth. If there is no anomaly in the baby's birth, if the baby's weight is not 4.5 or more, in other words if the baby is not too big to come out of the vagina, if the mother's pelvic canal is not narrower than normal, and if the baby's heartbeat can be heard at the beginning of labor, it will definitely be healthier to choose normal birth.

Because women in remote villages where there are no health institutions and no doctors, and females who become pregnant in their own habitat in nature can give birth naturally on their own, without any help, when health conditions allow. For all these reasons, normal birth should be the priority, but if conditions do not allow, cesarean birth should be preferred. Because even the best, most suitable cesarean birth carries some risks.

  • Since cesarean delivery is an open surgical operation, there are many risks involved, just like any other surgery. During a cesarean section, adverse events such as excessive bleeding, infection, and damage to organs close to the uterus, such as the bladder and intestines, can occur.

  • Due to some negativities arising from the specialist performing the caesarean section or the woman's health condition, the woman's bleeding may not stop and a blood transfusion may be required, even if it is as low as 2%.

  • In very rare cases where there is excessive bleeding, the bleeding may not be stopped and the woman's uterus may need to be removed.

  • Although it is not very common after a cesarean section, clots can form in the veins of a woman's legs and these clots can also travel to the lungs.

  • In a cesarean section, since the child is suddenly removed from the mother's womb by unnatural means and the woman's body is numb, communication and interaction between mother and baby begins later than in a normal birth.

  • Since a cesarean section is an operation, the woman has difficulty returning to her normal life. She may have to stay in the hospital for a while, stay at home, and her daily routine may be disrupted.

  • In a normal birth, pain and cramps occur during birth and end with the birth. However, in a cesarean birth, pain and cramps begin after the anesthesia wears off and last much longer.

  • A woman who has her first birth by cesarean section has a lower chance of having subsequent births naturally, although this is not zero.

  • Mothers who have had a cesarean section may encounter problems such as the baby's implantation in the cervix or adhesion to the uterine wall in subsequent births.

  • In a normal birth, the baby first tries to get out of the uterine canal with its own effort to be born and expels the fluid that has filled its lungs during this time. During this process, the baby's breathing and lung functions develop much better. However, in a cesarean birth, since the baby is taken from the mother's womb in an unnatural way, the lungs do not develop to the desired level and the baby may experience postnatal problems.

  • Although not very common, complications related to the anesthesia applied during cesarean section may occur.

  • While it is very rare for women who have a normal birth to have to stay in the hospital due to any complications after birth, this risk is much higher in cesarean birth.

  • While babies born through normal birth show a sucking reflex as soon as they are born, it has been observed that those born through caesarean section have slightly weaker sucking reflexes and some even have difficulty removing milk from the breast.

  • It is known that the lungs of babies born via cesarean section are less developed than those born normally, that they experience breathing problems and are even more likely to develop asthma in the future.

  • Although it is very rare, it is known that adhesions form in the uterus and on the wall of women who have a cesarean delivery, and these adhesions can have negative effects that can make the woman infertile.
